Kona Dolphin Swim Club athletes Maia Damazo, age 12, and Connor Aparicio-Bill, age 10, both had solid performances in the annual Hawaii State Long Course Age Group Championships held in Honolulu on July 16-19.

Damazo received six medals, placing fourth in the 50-meter backstroke, fifth in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly, seventh in the 100-meter backstroke, and eighth in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter backstroke.

Aparicio-Bill finished fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke

Damazo’s performance qualified her for the Western Zone Age Group Championships, which will be held in Kihei, Maui on Aug. 5-9. She is swimming the 500-meter individual medley, 200-meter backstroke, 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.

Zone championships feature the top regional swimmers at the Senior and Age Group levels who qualify for the meets in the four designed zones: Eastern, Central, Southern and Western.
